Garuda Fully Supports the Legal Process of Bombardier Aircraft Corruption

BUMNINC.COM | PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk fully supports law enforcement efforts on the alleged corruption case of Bombardier aircraft.
“In connection with the news about the British anti-corruption agency (Serious Fraud Office) which is investigating the alleged bribery of the Bombardier aircraft manufacturer against Garuda Indonesia, it can be said that we will respect the ongoing legal process in connection with the alleged bribery of the Bombardier aircraft sales contract in the 2012 period.” explained the President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, in a written statement, Friday (06/11/2020).
According to Irfan, Garuda Indonesia will also actively coordinate with the authorities to ensure the company’s full support for law enforcement efforts in the case.
Garuda Indonesia’s support for law enforcement efforts is in line with the mandate given by the government to Garuda Indonesia to continue to strengthen the implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) in all of its business activities.
“We hope that through our continuous commitment and active role in supporting these law enforcement efforts, Garuda Indonesia can consistently maintain a clean and transparent business environment sustainably in line with the vision of BUMN transformation,” said Irfan.
Previously, the British anti-corruption agency Serious Fraud Office announced that it had started an investigation regarding a corruption case involving Garuda Indonesia and aircraft manufacturer Bombardier.
Meanwhile, the former President Director (Dirut) of PT Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar, who was involved in the case, has been sentenced to 8 years in prison plus a fine of Rp1 billion, a subsidiary of 3 months in prison by the Indonesian Corruption Court (Tipikor), because he was found guilty of accepting bribes worth Rp. 49,3 billion and money laundering worth around Rp. 87,464 billion.
The panel of judges also decided that Emirsyah, as the President Director of Garuda from 2005 to 2014, must pay a substitute penalty of Singapore dollars 2,117,315.
In the first indictment, Emirsyah Satar as the President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia in 2005-2014 was accused together with Hadinoto Soedigno and Capt Agus Wahyudo of receiving money totaling IDR8,859 billion, US $ 884,200, 1,020,975 euros, and 1,189,208 dollars Singapore.
The bribes came from Airbus SAS, Roll-Royce Plc, and Avions de Transport Regional (ATR), as well as Bombardier Canada, through Hollingsworld Management International Ltd Hong Kong and Summberville Pacific Inc.
One of the bribes was related to the receipt of money for the procurement of Sub-100-seater Canadian Regional Jet 1,000 Next Generation (CRJ1,000NG) aircraft from Bombardier Aerospace Commercial Aircraft (hereinafter referred to as Bombardier) through Hollingworth Management International (HMI) and Summerville Pacific Inc.
